The project: Our legacy advanced search had some usability problems. We sought to redesign this by combining the filter selection and search results pages.
The goal: Reduce the number of clicks it takes to reach the search results, improve usability.
The challenge: The advanced search filters was separated from the search results page. Many of the filters were not actually used by our clients. There was also some needed filters that were not on the legacy page:
The process: After carefully documenting the stakeholder requirements and previous client feedback, I opened up my mockup software to showcase the following features:
– The filters were relocated to be on the same page as the search results
– A new “saved filters” feature to quickly customize what each user frequently needs
– New actions: export results to CSV, customize table column view, and an image view
– A quick filter view at the top to see which filters you set
