The project: This mobile app was developed to deliver timely, industry-relevant news and updates directly to oncology professionals via mobile push notifications. The goal was to bypass traditional email delivery—which is often blocked by hospital spam filters—and provide a more direct and engaging platform for medical content, including articles, audio, and event information.
The goal: Deliver oncology news updates without relying on email, ensuring critical content reaches doctors in real time. Encourage regular use through features such as audio articles, search functionality, and a personalized inbox. Support oncology professionals with easy access to upcoming conferences, continuing education, and medical research.
The challenge: Emails often fail to reach hospital-based physicians; a mobile solution needed to offer high deliverability and engagement. Balancing rich content (news, conferences, audio) without overwhelming users in a small mobile interface. Oncology professionals are often pressed for time, so the app required a clean interface and fast access to relevant content.
The process:
- Stakeholder Discovery:
- Collaborated with medical marketing and editorial teams to understand business goals and must-have features.
- Defined user personas focused on oncologists and medical specialists.
- User Flow Mapping:
- Developed flows for core app features, including alerts, audio playback, article reading, and event registration.
- Prioritized content delivery and minimized tap-depth for high-urgency news.
- Wireframing:
- Designed mobile-first wireframes to prototype navigation, inbox layout, search behavior, and article reading experience.
- Included audio player UI and optimized conference calendar browsing.
- Design System Integration:
- Created scalable components in Figma to streamline future iterations and ensure UI consistency across the app.
- Feedback & Iteration:
- Conducted internal walkthroughs and external testing with physicians to validate the UX.
- Refined navigation hierarchy and alert frequency preferences based on feedback.
Outcome
Event Awareness: Conference listings with registration links led to a measurable uptick in event interest and participation.
Increased Engagement: Early users reported higher satisfaction with push notifications vs. email and preferred having a centralized medical news hub.
Content Accessibility: Audio articles made it easier for doctors to consume news during travel or between appointments.
